Yarm 1914

Killed in Action on 9 Aug 1915 aged 19. Son of John and Elizabeth Atkinson of Castle Hills, Worsall, Yarm. He was born in Stokesley and enlisted in Durham while living in Yarm. Helles Memorial, Turkey.
Yarm1914 believe that Harold was born in 1895 in High Crossett in Bilsdale, the first child of John Atkinson aged 31 and Elizabeth nee Noble aged 20. Both his parents came from Bilsdale and were married in 1894 and became farmers. The family expended as Elsie was born in 1897, Wilhelmina in 1899, Reginald in 1900, Annie in 1903, Louie in 1905, Francis in 1907 and John Donald in 1910. By 1911 Harold had left the family home which was now Hagg House in Bilsdale and was a farm servant to John Trousdale at Cam House in Bilsdale. He signed up on 11 November 1914 aged 19 in Durham whilst resident in Yarm. He records his next of kin as his father John.

He is not remembered on any memorial in the Yarm area but his name is on the plaque in Bilsdale Midcable church (St John's) and the stone war memorial outside.
